Jonathan Lippman, the presiding justice of the Appellate Division, First Department, has been officially appointed as Chief Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals. Judge Lippman was nominated for this position by Governor Patterson and faced virtually no criticism during the confirmation process. Governor Patterson's press release containing his official nomination of Judge Lippman can be located on the New York State Court system's website.
With Judge Lippman's appointment, the Court of Appeals will now consist of four male judges and three female judges.
The Chief Judge's current salary is $156,000.
