Supreme Court Rules on Life Terms for Juveniles
On May 17, 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that juveniles may not be locked up in prison for life without the possibility of parole. By a 6-to-3 vote, the Supreme Court ruled that life imprisonment without parole in such cases violated the Constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment under the Eighth Amendment.
